BUSINESS MEETS POLICY: LESSONS FROM THE FIELD

Advanced Corporate Public Policy in the EU offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the strategic and practical challenges faced by government and corporate advocacy experts. Students will engage in in-depth overview of EU policymaking process, EU and global political landscape to explore how to support corporate future and current strategies. This course delves into critical areas such as regulatory risk mapping, stakeholder engagement, and the development of effective policy plans. It provides a platform for students to analyze real-world case studies and discuss the operational and corporate dilemmas faced by corporate leaders. The seminar is an exceptional opportunity to understand the dynamics of corporate public policy and develop the skills necessary to navigate and influence the policy landscape effectively.

IRIA MOUZO

As Chief Policy Officer at Inditex, Iria Mouzo Lestón led global efforts in regulatory risk and policy strategy across various fields and geographies, collaborating with legislators, associations, and stakeholders worldwide. Previously, she headed Circularity and Sustainability Public Policy, driving circular economy initiatives and stakeholder engagement projects. Earlier, she served as Deputy Chief Strategy Officer, delivering strategic planning for Inditex’s global operations.
Iria was actively involved in impactful trade association initiatives and founding collaborative industry projects. Her efforts included serving as Chair, Board Member or Representative Partner in several key business associations, think tanks and alliances both in EU and US.
She studied Business Economics and has pursued advanced leadership and sustainability training from prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Leeds and IE Business School

Skills

The students will:
1. Understanding Public Policy: Students will gain insights into the structure and functions of public policy institutions, particularly within the EU, and their decision-making processes.
2. Analyzing Policy Impact: The course will explore the multifaceted consequences of policy decisions, including the effects of EU elections and the global political landscape on corporate strategies.
3. Developing Policy Plans: Students will learn to map and prioritize regulatory risks for corporations, providing political context to support strategic decisions and developing comprehensive policy plans.
4. Leadership skills for policy executives, like effective communication, monitoring and navigating and identifying key networks of influence and cooperation. The use of AI and social media, as well as interpersonal skills, will be emphasized.
5. Examine operational and corporate dilemmas faced by corporate leaders, and explore strategies for navigating these challenges, including the OECD principles for corporate lobbying.
6. Practical Application: Through real-world case studies, students will apply lessons learned to contemporary global and national issues, evaluating their relevance in today’s business and policy landscape.
