20 Oct BUILDING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS: CONNECTION & BOUNDARIES
Do you want to work better in your team projects, deliver better team results, or learn to work better
with people who are different than you? The answer is build strong Relationships!
In a world of increasing individuality, with feelings of isolation on the rise, enhancing our individual
capacity to demonstrate Kindness, Empathy and Compassion to ourselves and others is critical, not
only to our own well-being but also to be able to connect and work skillfully with each other.
Developing an awareness of the factors that influence our intimate relationship with ourselves and
indeed the impact we have on the context of others, empowers us to self-care first and then open
up to care for others. Challenging the mental filters, biases and assumptions we make on a daily
basis enables each individual to step beyond themselves, see the humanity in others, build a
shared identity and ultimately build solid, respectful relationships.
This module is an entirely personal journey. It will provide students with an opportunity to actively
engage and participate in a guided journey towards a greater level of emotional and social
intelligence to skillfully and honestly build the relationships needed to be successful. It will help to
provide the tools needed to encourage greater acts of Kindness, Empathy, and Compassion in their
daily lives.
Throughout this course, students will develop a greater awareness and appreciate of the science
behind this journey; how a greater understanding of ‘self’ positively impacts their relationships
which ultimately drives improved performance.
We will begin the journey with two sessions of self-development. We are living in a world with
multiple distractions, each competing for our attention and each in their own unique way drawing on
our mental energy. Only by investing some of your time in positive self-development can you
enhance your self-awareness so as to fully embrace the journey you are about to embark on as
part of the Mind pillar within the Centre for Health, Wellbeing and Happiness. Focusing your attention and reflective capacities on understanding the impact of emotions on your
behaviors and mindscapes, as well as, enhancing your awareness of how your mind works and
processes information will enable you to build a solid foundation on which you can further explore
Kindness, Empathy and Compassion and/or Attention for High Performance.
