DECODING EUROPE: INTEGRATION AND STRATEGIC AUTONOMY IN TIMES OF GLOBAL CHANGE

This course examines the European integration project from historical, institutional, and policy perspectives, while addressing contemporary debates on competitiveness, foreign and security policy, and the EU’s role in the global order. As Europe navigates the challenges of green and digital transitions, geopolitical shifts, and internal transformations, this course equips students with the analytical tools to assess these developments critically.

Catherine de Vries is a leading voice in the field of European politics. She is the President of the Institute of European Policy Making and holds the Generali Endowed Chair in European Policies. Catherine will serve as Professor and Vice Dean at the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs.

Dr. Ilke Toygür is Director of the Global Policy Center and Professor of Practice at IE University. Her expertise covers European integration, democracy, and transatlantic relations, with work featured in Foreign Affairs, Der Spiegel, and El País.

María Andrés is head of the European Parliament Office in Spain. With a degree in journalism and a master in EU studies, her career has always been linked to EU policies, political communication and media relations.

Enrico Letta served as Prime Minister of Italy from 2013 to 2014. He is currently Dean of
the IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs at IE University, and President of the Jacques Delors Institute.
