04 Nov MANAGE YOUR MOST VALUABLE RESOURCES: TIME AND ENERGY
Do you often feel that you should be spending your time better? Or that you have trouble focusing your attention on where it should be versus what it is attracted to? Do you find yourself procrastinating too much?
This workshop provides students with knowledge and skills to boost their attention for better performance during and after their time at IE in an age of huge digital distraction.
We all love digital technology. At university, laptops, tablets and smartphones have become an integral part of our daily work, and our private lives. Despite the huge advantages of these tools, there may be a darker side to them. As more and more apps and tech-based tools try to grab our limited attention, many of us are struggling to focus on what is really important, and resist distraction.
Our human attention is a limited resource and we have to decide wisely which aspects of our environment to focus on – and what to ignore – in order to be productive. This workshop will introduce findings from decades of research on attention to help students boost their attentional resources, inside and outside the lecture room.
Students will learn how attention works, how it can be trained to perform better professionally, and how to deal effectively with digital (and non-digital) distractions.
They will develop their own philosophy of digital use to use as a reference going forward.
It will also give students concrete tools to replenish and manage their attention as well as invite them to explore different approaches to the use of their times.
