04 Nov MODS, ROCKERS, E-BOYS AND MORE, WHICH SUBCULTURE ARE YOU?
This subject will review the formation of subcultures and their cultural practices (clothes, hairstyle and consumer and creative practices) and how do they define themselves in that respect? We will analyse the different styles of people in both the physical and digital environments, and analyse the interactions they carry out and the spaces they inhabit, in the construction of group identity.
Questions such as how does style and artistic expressions: clothes, hairstyle and consumer and creative practices, relate to social, cultural and political concerns of people, in particular, of youth, and how do they use space (physical and virtual) to construct group identity, will be examined. This will range from Brighton Pier (mods and rockers in the 60´s) to the different styles of avatars and the virtual spaces in the 21st Century.
This subject will provide knowledge of the interelationship between social markers and people´s identity and their interactional practices.
