04 Nov ROBOTS IN THE FAR WEST: EUROPEAN FINANCIAL REGULATION VS AI & CRYPTO EVOLUTION
Financial industry is full of sophisticated and complext terms that we hear and repeat every day. This seminar aims to give the students a better understanding of some of these key topics that are globally discussed today, with a special focus on how financial regulation has been forced to evolve and adapt and in particular how crypto and artificial intelligence are re-shifting financial industry.
We will also make a review of the key elements on investor protection framework in the European Union and the challenges and oportinities derived from crypto assets and artificial intelligence breakthrough.
JORGE FERNÁNDEZ
Jorge is Director of the Financial Services Legal and Regulatory Practice at Ernst & Young Spain. He has been advising national and foreign financial entities (banks, insurance companies, investment firms) for more than 11 years.
Jorge holds a Law degree and a Post Graduate LLM in Corporate Business Law at Instituto de Empresa (IE). Adjunt professor at IE University (Teaching excellence award in 2018, 2019 and 2020) and UIC Barcelona.
Skills
The objective of this seminar is to try to allow students to get a better practical understanding of how financial industry is configured, key pillars of existing and future regulation for artificial intelligence and crypto assets and how they can approach these matters in their future professional career.
1. The student will be able to get a general overview on how the financial industry (banks, insurance companies and investment firms) is structured and the characteristics of each key player.
2. Students will be acquainted with a general understanding on how the European regulators have designed laws and mechanisms to protect investors and costumers.
3. Student will travel through some recent cases where this investor protection framework was breached and what did it imply to the global economy
4. Students will be provided with a general overview on Artificial Intelligence regulation and applicable cases for the financial industry (current and expected future);
5. Students will get an illustration of how crypto assets and Artificial Inteligence are affecting the financial system infrastructure and the challenges and opportunities they generate for our profession.
