Running a Country: Dialogs with President Calderón about Toughest Decisions in Office” is a class that provides a unique opportunity to gain insights into the practical challenges and decision-making processes involved in governing a nation.
Students will engage in in-depth conversations with former Mexican President Felipe Calderón, (2006 to 2012), to explore the complexities and intricacies of leading a country. This course delves into the critical decisions made during Calderón’s presidency, focusing on issues such as economics, security, and foreign policy, and offers a platform for students to analyze and discuss the real-world implications of policy choices. The seminar is an exceptional opportunity to understand the dynamics of leadership and governance at the highest level.
FELIPE CALDERON
Felipe Calderón, is a Mexican politician who held the office of President of Mexico from 2006 to 2012. Before his presidency, Calderón held various government positions, including Secretary of Energy and different positions at the Legislative Branch. He holds s Bachelor’s Degree in Law, a Master’s in Economics and a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

The students will:
1. Gain insight into the decision-making process at the highest level of government,
2. Develop the ability to analyze the multifacted consequences of policy choice, in areas such as economics, security, and foreign policy.
3. Learn about leadership skills required to lead a country, including crisis management, negotiations and communications.
4. Acquire a deep understanding of the political and historical context of Mexico and how it influienced decision-making
5. Examine the ethical and moral dilemmas that leaders face in office and how they navigate them.
6. Apply the knowledge and lessons learned from President Calderón’s experiences to contemporary global and national issues, and consider their relevance in today’s political landscape.
