20 Feb THE FUTURE OF MONEY AND BANKING (MONETARY POLICY AND FINANCIAL REGULATION)
In the seminar we will reflect on the future of money and banking in view of the impact that new technologies can have on money and banking. We will also analyze the policies that can help to take advantage of new technologies to achieve more stability and efficiency of the monetary system
To do this, we will begin by reviewing the harmful consequences caused by the current monetary system: banking crises, recessions, slow recoveries, difficulties of monetary pooling, etc.
We will also analyze the problems of lack of competition in the banking system due to the excessive protectionism and voluminous regulation of banks.
Finally, we will comment on the proposal to have safe digital money issued by central banks (CBDC) that could solve the main problem of the current system, which is the fragility of bank deposits.
